Kingdom of Belgium
The 14 mergers resulting from the municipal reorganization of 2024/25 reduced the number of municipalities from 581 to 565. The newly created municipalities include Pajottegem, Nazareth-De Pinte, Merelbeke-Melle, Beveren-Kruibeke-Zwijndrecht, Tessenderlo-Ham, Bilzen-Hoeselt, and Tongeren-Borgloon. The boundaries of some provinces and arrondissements were also affected.

Beligian sub-municipalities (deelgemeenten) correspond (more or less) to the municipalities that existed on 1 January 1961 (Brussels: in 1920).

On 1 January 2019, the number of communes was reduced by 7 mergers from 589 to 581. Tournai and Mouscron arrondissement were also fused. The new La Louvière arrondissement consists of four communes.
