The Western Sahara is currently annexed by Morocco. At the same, it is recognized as Democratic Arabian Republic Sahara by many other countries and is member of the African Union. The final status of the Western Sahara has not been determined yet. The following figures do not consider the population in Algerian camps. Furthermore, a separation of the population of Western Sahara and Morocco is difficult and leads to some inconsistencies.
